Day 4

DAY 4

So far so good... My personal plan of producing no garbage has been working out so far. Although, I do have a confession to make. I'm the only one in my household that is upholding that challenge. My husband who has been Mr. Mom since I started school again have not been partaking in the project. He's got a different set of priorities at the moment. Which means that there has been some garbage being thrown out in this household. Also, I started this challenge having loads of items in my fridge and my pantry that are packaged, but I'm choosing not to eat them this week for obvious reasons. Will I eat them next week? Well, they have been bought and certainly they shouldn't be going to waste. Am I learning from my experience? Absolutely! Can I convince my husband to join me? Maybe eventually, but the world is just not set up that way... Yet.

The only little bit of garbage that I needed to throw out today was a small piece of my butter wrapper.. the tiniest piece of tin foil. I couldn't think of any other good way butter could be packaged in other than foil and be economical, unless going to retrieve your own butter. These are questions these big companies should start asking themselves.

In other news, we are approaching the weekend and my mom will be coming over on Saturday. This means, I will have to make a nice meal and get some snacks. Thinking how I will shop in order to minimize garbage of any kind will be interesting. I will definitely keep you posted though.

I have to say though that having a recycling and a compost bin helps quite a bit. It's all that plastic! I'm realizing now the amount of plastic that is being used and thrown our everyday! Even trying not to have to deal with plastic, your reusable containers remain plastic, which means they will also eventually join the rest of their plasticky friends. You just can't win! Unless everything turns to glass or brown paper. Also, the thought of all that plastic landing in some land field somewhere... It's a bit depressing to think about. Which is why we should all do our part in reducing its usage. Starting with grocery bags....

Anyway, tomorrow is Friday and I'm still awaiting for my Old Navy order to arrive... I hope it holds up!
